HAMTRAMCK, Mich. — Aerial footage captured a Hamtramck officer’s epic tackle of a fleeing kidnapping suspect.
The 28-year-old suspect reached speeds of up to 80 mph, hopping curbs and driving through lawns in the process, Fox 2 Detroit reported. Police said they would normally have called off the pursuit, but they had reason to believe an abducted child was in the vehicle.
“A Detroit police car got right in front of her and was able to stop her,” Officer Nikole Jabour told ClickOnDetroit.com. “I knew she was about to bail out of the car on foot, so once I saw her bail I started running for her, and I tackled her.”
The suspect was alone in the van and has been charged with fleeing and eluding police, and possession of a felony vehicle connected to local crimes, according to Fox 2 Detroit.
Jabour said she’s aided in police pursuits before, but this was her first takedown.
“This is my first tackle in a chase ... I got up and I was like, ‘Woo, that was pretty cool.’”
Jabour said there were multiple crashes involved, but no one was injured.
