SUMMERVILLE, S.C. — Police released dash cam footage of a Wednesday motorcycle pursuit that ended in a fatal wreck.

Deputy James Vansant attempted to pull over Robert Lee Clark Jr., 30, for speeding when Clark fled, the Post and Courier reported. Authorities said the ensuing pursuit reached up to 111 mph, with Clark running red lights, slamming his brakes and making quick lane changes.

In the video, Vansant can be seen following closely to Clark’s motorcycle and saying Clark was attempting to pass an oncoming car.

Police told the Post and Courier that Clark may have missed a gear while shifting, causing him to strike Vansant’s vehicle. Clark then hit an oncoming car and the curb and was thrown from his motorcycle.

He was pronounced dead on the scene. Police recovered marijuana on Clark’s person.

Vansant is on administrative leave pending an internal investigation. South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating as well. Police reports and the agency’s statement indicated that the collision was not deliberate.
