FAIRMOUNT, Minn. — A Minnesota sheriff’s office wanted to make sure a fallen deputy was there in spirit for his daughter’s prom night.
KMSP reports that last weekend, 11 uniformed members of the Martin County Sheriff’s Office escorted Hannah Petschke to her prom night. Petschke is the daughter of Deputy Chad Petschke, who passed away last fall while off duty.
The LEOs joined Hannah for pictures and two of them walked with her through the Grand March.
“First I was like ‘Oh, yeah, they’re joking,’” Hannah said. “I didn’t think they were actually going to do it.”
Hannah’s mother, Kandice, said she was grateful for the sheriff office’s gesture.
It’s hard to explain, my heart was full, is what I would say, my heart was full,” Kandice said. “That hasn’t happened for a little bit, so that was a nice feeling to say this is great, this is awesome.”
The deputies didn’t stay for long after the Grand March. They said they didn’t want to make it too awkward to have a group of uniformed deputies in uniform at the event.
The LEOs are now figuring out what to do to give Hannah a memorable graduation.
