APPLETON, Wis. — A video of an officer has gone viral after he surprised the student body during a football game.

Officer Jack Taschner, who has worked as a school resource officer for two years, has attended every football and basketball game, Inside Edition reported. He said he’s been watching the students do cheers during the games, including one that involves driving a bus.

“I’ve watched them do it for a number of years, I decided I want to get in and join them,” he said.

Video posted to the police department’s Facebook shows Taschner approach the stands like he’s going to tell the students to calm down. The department wrote, “just when it looked like SRO Taschner was breaking up the fun during the Appleton East Football game, expectations changed.” Taschner said only one student knew he was going to join in, so it was fun to surprise the students. The video has been seen over 3 million times on Facebook.

“I didn’t think the video would go viral,” he said. “I did it for the fun of it. I think in light of the issues going on with law enforcement and videos coming out, it’s important for students to understand we are just people. It allows for a better rapport.”
