COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Two teenage girls at Coronado High School were arrested on fighting charges after one of them allegedly hit an officer who was trying to break up their fight, Colorado Springs police said.

Colorado Springs police said the school resource officer also hit one of the girls in the “lower face area,” as he was trying to stop the fight.

No one was injured, and both students were suspended, according to police. District 11 spokeswoman Devra Ashby said the resource officer was justified in his actions.

After investigating the situation, Colorado Springs Police concluded that the SRO was within his legal rights when he defended himself by trying to get one of the girls off of him, Ashby said.

Police said the officer’s supervisor responded to the fight, and oversaw the investigation.
