WARREN, Mich. — Police are commending the actions an officer recently took to save a 12-year-old child’s life at a Warren hotel.
At about 6:55 p.m. Saturday, Warren police dispatch received a report that a child in the pool at TownPlace Suites, 7601 Chicago Road, was unresponsive and not breathing.
At that moment, Officer Jacob Brooklier was already at the hotel for an unrelated issue, Warren police said in a press release. When dispatchers notified him of the life-threatening emergency, he sprinted down a hallway and into the hotel pool area.
When he arrived, the child had been pulled from the pool and was surrounded by panicked bystanders who were attempting to perform CPR.
"… Officer Brooklier took charge, placing the child in a rescue position, and initiating chest compressions,” the release said. “For two crucial minutes, Officer Brooklier continued chest compressions, all the while coordinating with bystanders and communicating with incoming first responders.”
The child was revived just as Warren firefighters arrived on scene, then was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, authorities said.
The child has since been released and is expected to make a full recovery.
Police applauded Brooklier, along with dispatch, the Fire Department and the officers who helped block intersections to expedite the child’s transport to the hospital for each playing a “crucial role in saving this child’s life.”
“While Officer Brooklier’s immediate action and unwavering commitment to CPR were heroic and no doubt pivotal in reviving the child, this successful rescue stands as a testament to the collective dedication and collaborative spirit of Warren’s first responders, highlighting our shared commitment to protecting and serving the community,” police said in the release.
