NEW YORK CITY — On the 22nd anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the United States remembers the officers who bravely served that day and those who have since succumbed to illnesses linked to their actions.
In response to the 9/11 attacks, first responders, including police officers, swiftly acted to save lives amid unprecedented chaos and destruction. Today, we honor their memory and acknowledge the sacrifices made by these men and women.
In the years following the attacks, many have battled severe health issues due to exposure to toxic dust and debris at Ground Zero. We honor their memory and remain committed to providing support and care for those who continue to suffer the physical and emotional aftermath of 9/11.
The National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund has compiled a list of officers who lost their lives that day, included below. The list of those who have died of related illnesses following the attack can be found here.
