Video: Mich. cops arrest FBI agent who opened fire on sergeant

The suspect’s attorney said it’s possible the agent had a “paranoid” episode at the time of the incident

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Police released body camera footage of the Dec. 6 standoff between police and an armed off-duty FBI agent.

Officers received calls of a man with a gun at a local gym, WOOD reported. When officers asked Agent Ruben Manuel Hernandez, 35, to speak outside, Hernandez fired at a sergeant.

In the video, Hernandez is already on the ground when backup officers arrive. He can be heard repeatedly apologizing as the officers discover he has a badge.

Hernandez’s attorney told the Associated Press the agent was feeling paranoid and has little memory of what happened. He said alcohol could have been a factor.

The agent faces charges of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, felonious assault and brandishing a weapon in public.
