ST. CHARLES PARISH, La. — An 11-year-old driver led State Police on an early-morning, high-speed chase down the interstate in St. Charles Parish on Friday morning after authorities say a trooper attempted to pull him over for speeding.
No one was hurt during the chase. However, authorities say the youth -- who was alone in the truck -- forced several vehicles off the road as he attempted to pass along the shoulder.
Authorities say the boy, who was driving a 1996 Jeep, was clocked by a State Trooper about 6:30 a.m. traveling 80 mph in a 60 mph zone south on Interstate 310 near Airline Highway.
The chase started when the trooper activated his lights and sirens in an attempt to pull the driver over. Authorities say the boy refused to stop and during the course of the chase increased his speed to more than 100 mph at times as he drove south on I-310 then west on U.S. 90.
Authorities say he stopped in the parking lot of Burger King at the intersection of U.S. 90 and Ruth Street in Boutte and ran into the restaurant calling for his mother.
Authorities say the boy’s parents -- Leona M. Calloway, 32, and his father Rodney Brown, 46, had allowed him to use the vehicle for the past six months to chauffeur his disabled father.
His parents face charges of improper supervision of a minor and allowing an unlicensed minor to drive. He faces charges of felony flight from an officer, reckless driving, speeding, passing on the shoulder, improper lane usage and driving without a license.
