Security Breach Closes Part of Palm Beach Airport for 2 Hours

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A Palm Beach International Airport terminal was shut down for more than two hours after a worker passed through security without taking off his shoes.

Officials with the Transportation Security Administration closed the concourse shortly after a skycap evaded the checkpoint around 6 p.m. Tuesday, said airport spokeswoman Lisa de la Rionda.

Two bomb-sniffing dogs searched the area but found no explosives.

Passengers were prevented from boarding flights in the concourse until about 8:45 p.m. Airport and law enforcement officials could not say how many people or flights were affected by the shutdown.

Earlier Tuesday at the airport, Christine Colangeli, 31, of Vermont, was arrested for having a 4 1/2 inch steak knife concealed in a carry-on bag. She was brought to the Palm Beach County Jail and later released on $500 bond.

There have been 10 security breaches this year at the airport.
