TULSA, Okla. — Newly released dash cam video shows a pursuit involving pepper balls after the suspect refused to follow commands, Tulsa World reported.

Officers were investigating reports of a suspicious vehicle on Feb. 11 when the suspect, 42-year-old Derrick Dwayne Ross, sped away and a pursuit ensued. Ten minutes into the pursuit, Ross parked at a convenience store after police flattened his tires with stop sticks.

Officers yelled at Ross to raise his hands. When he refused, officers fired pepper balls into the vehicle which shattered the back window.

After Ross continued to ignore commands from police to exit the vehicle, more pepper balls were fired by officers.

Ross eventually got out of the vehicle, but officers were forced to set off another round of pepper balls when he attempted to reach back into the car.

Officers charged Ross with riot shields and took him into custody.

He was charged with eluding police, driving under the influence of drugs, possession of marijuana and resisting officers. He has a lengthy criminal record with numerous drug-related convictions.
