SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — A Seminole County deputy is recovering from injuries after being rescued from a crash by an off-duty firefighter.
Deputy Matthew Luxon was on patrol when his SUV crossed the center line and slammed into a bridge abutment, ClickOrlando.com reported.
The crash was witnessed by off-duty Orlando fire lieutenant Ben Wootsen. Wootsen was taking his son to a soccer game and stopped to assist.
Realizing the vehicle was on fire, Wootsen pulled Luxon from the SUV seconds before the inside of the vehicle began to burn.
Wootsen then used the deputy’s radio to call for help. The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office stated that Luxon experienced a medical emergency, was transported to a hospital and is listed in stable condition.
