JACKSON COUNTY, ORE. — Body camera video shows deputies rescuing two children who were abandoned in the woods by a fleeing suspect, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident stemmed from a Feb. 7 domestic violence call, according to the sheriff’s office. When deputies arrived, Ryan Trompeter, 24, fled the scene at a high rate of speed with two children, a 6-year-old and a toddler.

On Feb. 16, the sheriff’s office received reports that Trompeter was hiding in a wooded area with the children. Deputies went to the scene, where they located Trompeter’s vehicle.

Body camera footage shows deputies cautiously approaching the vehicle with guns drawn, instructing anyone inside to show themselves. The children’s cries can be heard coming from inside the car.

The deputies remove the children from the car and try to comfort them, the video shows. One deputy gives the older child a juice container.

The children were taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to the report. Investigation revealed that the children had been left in the car for up to two hours. Deputies also found substances believed to be fentanyl and methamphetamines in the car with the children. Trompeter remains at large.
