SAVANNAH, Ga. — Police are searching for a suspected shoplifter who injured a Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department officer in an attempt to flee the scene of her crime.
It happened around 4 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of Savannah Festival Factory Stores at the intersection of Ga. 204 and Interstate 95.
Sgt. Mike Wilson, police spokesman, said the officer believed the suspect had shoplifted from at least one of the stores and was escorting her to her parked vehicle for a search.
“The suspect emptied several items from her clothing and ran to her vehicle,” Wilson said. “The officer lost his grip.”
Wilson said the officer’s shoulder was dislocated, and he was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital for treatment. Wilson did not immediately identify the injured officer because he was not certain all the officer’s family members had been notified of his medical condition.
Now, police are searching for Christina Grant. She is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing about 200 to 220 pounds. She has pink hair and was last seen driving east on Ga. 204 in a gold Chevy Malibu sedan with North Carolina tags.
“This officer just got out of the officer training program,” Wilson said, adding that the officer will be recovering for several weeks,
