Suspect who dragged Mass. trooper caught in Conn. after manhunt

The suspect was believed to be armed and wearing body armor as he fled a traffic stop, dragging a Massachusetts trooper with him for several feet

STAMFORD, Conn. — A suspect wanted for fleeing a traffic stop and dragging a trooper in Massachusetts has been arrested in Stamford, WWLP reported.

The 23-year-old suspect was taken into custody on Aug. 20 by local and regional law enforcement units, including the Stamford Police Special Response Team and the Southwest Regional Emergency Response Team, according to the report.

Two firearms were recovered during a search of the suspect’s hotel room and vehicle.

The man was the subject of a multi-state manhunt after allegedly dragging a Massachusetts State trooper with his vehicle during a traffic stop on Interstate 91 in Holyoke on Aug. 19. According to Massachusetts State Police, troopers stopped a black Audi with temporary Vermont plates around 10 p.m. near Exit 15. The suspect, believed to be armed and wearing body armor, fled the stop, dragging a trooper several feet. The trooper sustained minor injuries.

The suspect led officers on a high-speed pursuit through Holyoke, with speeds topping 100 mph. The State Police Air Wing and K-9 units assisted, and a cruiser equipped with a GPS-tagging system attempted to track the Audi, but the tag was unsuccessful. Stop sticks were deployed but the pursuit was eventually terminated out of concern for highway worker safety near a construction zone.

Investigators later received information that the suspect was hiding in Stamford. Stamford police said they confirmed his location at the hotel and moved in for the arrest around 5 p.m. on Aug. 20.

The suspect is expected to face multiple charges in connection with the incidents in Vermont, Massachusetts and Connecticut. The investigation remains ongoing.
