FORT MILL, S.C. — It took a helicopter, dog team and two dozen law enforcement officials, but police in Fort Mill say they finally captured a man suspected of throwing a piece of wood at an officer last week.

Following a two-hour chase, investigators arrested Creston Culp around 2 p.m. this afternoon on Riverwood Drive near Fort Mill High School. Authorities called in a York County canine unit and SLED helicopter to help in the search, said Capt. Bryan Zachary.

The trouble first began on June 29, when police say Culp, 32, ran from an officer during a disturbance call. Officers searching for Culp discovered him that night behind a mechanic shop near his home Fritts Street.

Before they could take him into custody, police say Culp picked up a piece of wood and threw it at an officer, striking him in the arm. The officer was treated at Piedmont Medical Center and has since returned to duty.

After several days of on-and-off searching, police found Culp again this afternoon near Munn Road, said Zachary. Culp ran through some woods before officers caught up to him near the high school, police say.

Culp is charged with public disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, aggravated assault and resisting arrest with a deadly weapon, Zachary said. The suspect was being held at Moss Justice Detention Center after a judge set bond at $80,000.
