DALLAS — The City of Dallas has appointed Michael Igo, the current Dallas Police executive assistant chief, as interim police chief, effective Oct. 18, CBS Texas reported.

“It is an honor to be named as Interim Dallas Police Chief,” Igo said. “For the last three decades, I have remained committed to the safety of this great city and its residents. I look forward to serving in this new capacity and will continue prioritizing crime reduction and recruiting the best and brightest that this country has to offer.”

The announcement was made by Dallas Interim City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert following the upcoming departure of Police Chief Eddie Garcia, who plans to leave his position for a city management role in Austin before the end of the year, according to the report.

Igo, who has spent his entire 33-year career with the Dallas Police Department, has risen through the ranks since joining the force. He was promoted to senior corporal in 1997, and later advanced to sergeant, lieutenant, major, deputy chief, assistant chief and most recently, executive assistant chief earlier this year, according to the report
