Calif. officer bitten on head, loses piece of scalp

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — An officer was bitten on the head during a fight that left him with part of his scalp removed.

On Tuesday around 8 p.m., officers J. Beagley and F. Juarez with the Bakersfield Police Department responded to the 3500 block of Madison Avenue to an assault incident involving a weapon.

When officers arrived, they said William Owten, a registered sex offender, resisted arrest and began to fight with the officers.

During the fight, Officer Juarez was bitten on the head by Owten, who removed a piece of his scalp, April Grant of the BPD said.

Moments later, Officer A. Pflugh arrived on scene and deployed her Taser in an attempt to place Owten in custody.
