ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The Annapolis police department has implemented new scheduling policies designed to maintain officer health and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The new schedule, which was implemented April 16, has officers working 12-hour shifts for seven days in a row, followed by 14 days without any scheduled shifts. United Food & Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 400, which represents the officers of the Annapolis Police Department, wrote in a press release that this schedule will allow full staffing while lowering the risk of COVID-19 transmission.

“We applaud the City for coming to an agreement with us on a program that benefits our officers and the communities they serve. These frontline heroes serve every day and continue to keep Annapolis safe even with the increased threat from COVID-19,” said UFCW Local 400 President Mark Federici, according to the press release.

UFCW Local 400 wrote that its leadership will continue to collaborate with the city to maintain officer safety and wellness as they serve on the front lines during the pandemic.
