Philly police won’t use Crisco to grease poles after Super Bowl

Last week, Philly police used Crisco to grease light poles in an effort to thwart people from climbing them during the NFC Championship game

PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia police are preparing for possible pandemonium if the Philadelphia Eagles win the Super Bowl, but that prep won’t include greasing up light poles with Crisco.

CBS Philadelphia reports that Police Commissioner Richard Ross, who expects the Eagles to win, said the department is ready for the “very large celebrations” in the aftermath. Ross said there will be a “sizable contingent of officers” throughout the city during the big game.

Excluded in their preparations is using Crisco to grease the light poles. Prior to the NFC Championship game, poles were greased in an effort to thwart people from climbing up on them.

But police said the tactic didn’t work as people still managed to climb them. Ross hinted that the department may be looking at an alternative.

“Now look, I can’t tell you that there won’t still be attempts, but I would suspect that some of them will be far more difficult than they were with the Crisco attempt,” said Ross.

Despite the failure, Crisco still thanked Philly police for their effort at keeping the community safe, according to WTXF-TV. The company showed their gratitude the only way they could — with cookies.
