PHOENIX — Six people were arrested Saturday night after a protest against police brutality turned violent and obstructed traffic.
KPHO reports the crowd of 40-50 people began throwing flag poles they had been carrying at officers as police tried to control the crowd.
Officers warned protestors to stay out of the roadway in downtown Phoenix, but their orders were ignored.
The crowd shouted, “Hands up; shoot back!” as they moved into the traffic, according to AZ Central.
Pepperballs were shot at protestors after they began throwing the flagpoles.
“They continued to block the roadway and cross against traffic signals creating additional hazards,” Phoenix Police Sgt. Jonathan Howard told KPHO.
Many fled the area after the protest became violent. There were no reports of injuries or damage, according to the report.
