EL PASO, Texas — An off-duty border patrol agent was hospitalized in critical condition after a man stabbed him during a pursuit.
Agent Isaac Morales and his girlfriend were leaving a bar Saturday when Hisaias Justo Lopez allegedly started an unprovoked confrontation, the El Paso Times reported.
When Morales, 30, identified himself as an agent, Lopez, 39, attacked him with a knife. During the ensuing pursuit, Lopez turned around and stabbed Morales several times in the face. Witnesses detained Lopez and held onto him until police arrived, according to the report.
Morales was transported to the hospital where he is currently listed in critical condition. Lopez was charged with criminal attempted murder, KFOX 14 reported.
