FREEMAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Federal authorities are trying to determine where nearly three dozen guns found in rural Michigan came from and who owns them.
The Clare County Sheriff’s Department says the weapons were found Tuesday by a man cutting firewood in Freeman Township, about 110 miles north of Lansing. The agency says the man found a rifle hidden under a log, then discovered 30 more guns before notifying police.
Authorities say officers seized those weapons and found three more in the same area.
Special Agent Donald Dawkins says the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is examining serial numbers as part of its investigation.
Dawkins says the 29 handguns and five long guns found hadn’t been there long.
