NEW YORK — Mayor Bill de Blasio is asking the government to reimburse the city for the security costs of protecting President-elect Donald Trump at Trump Tower.

De Blasio is seeking up to $35 million in reimbursement for providing security up until Trump’s inauguration on Jan. 20, CBS New York reported. Security totals around $500K a day.

“We are going to be continuing very aggressively in the course of the next few days, calls and meetings with members of the Obama administration and members of the Congress to nail down the reimbursements,” de Blasio told the news station. “This is the time now to really lean into nailing down the reimbursement.”

NYPD Commissioner James O’Neill said they are developing a post-inaugural security plan with the Secret Service for Melania Trump and the couple’s son, Barron, who are planning to stay in New York City until Barron finishes the school year.

The request for reimbursement comes after an emotionally disturbed woman got through security and made it to the 24th floor of Trump Tower last week, according to the news station.
