Jamaica, N.Y. — A man police had brought in for questioning in the homicide of an Amityville man jumped out of a window of the 103rd Precinct in Jamaica yesterday afternoon and escaped, officials said.
Maxie Dacosta Jr., 27, of St. Albans, made his daring jump at about 2:40 p.m. from a third-floor room of the precinct house on Edward Byrne Avenue, where he was sitting alone, a police spokesman said. Officials did not have an immediate explanation for why Dacosta was alone or whether police were preparing to question him or had already begun.
Officials said Dacosta was sought for questioning in the July 28 shooting death of Darnell Angevine, 25, of Amityville. They did not identify his place of residence.
On that fateful July day, investigators said, Angevine was in a group of men who were involved in a dispute in front of 105-19 177th St. in Jamaica. The dispute escalated and shots were fired, with one round striking Angevine in the chest.
Angevine died at Mary Immaculate Hospital. Police then began a search for Dacosta, to question him.
Detectives picked up Dacosta yesterday in the Bronx, the police spokesman said.
Police released a photo of Dacosta and described him as being about 6 feet tall and weighing 190 pounds, with close-cropped black hair, a mustache and a goatee.
