DURHAM, England — After a 5-year-old girl wrote to the Durham police, they may be the first agency to introduce a police cat, The Guardian reported.

Eliza Adamson-Hopper wrote to Chief Constable Mike Barton and suggested the force employ a cat for police work.

“My dog is friends with my cat and I think a police cat would be friends with your police dogs,” Eliza wrote in her letter.

Barton replied to the young girl and told her they would pass on the idea to Inspector Richie Allen.

Allen told the publication that they are considering a feline officer.

“Their duties and responsibilities have not yet been agreed but if nothing else they will become the force mascot,” Allen said. “Of course, if it smells a rat we’ll expect it to catch it.”

This 5-year-old just might have convinced Durham Police to start using “police cats” ??
