CLEVELAND — In the wake of the discovery of three women held captive in a Cleveland home for about a decade, local officials are strengthening efforts to locate missing people.
Officials in Cuyahoga County said Thursday that they’ve launched a website about unresolved cases and hired three people to focus on them.
County Executive Ed FitzGerald says the initiative addresses a gap in information-sharing for police, the public and families of the missing. The county will add two deputies focused on missing-person cases and hire a liaison to update the website and help local law enforcement exchange case information.
Cleveland police overhauled their handling of missing-person cases in response to criticism after the remains of 11 women were found at a man’s home in 2009.
