RICHLAND, Wash. — A Portland, Ore. local news channel has identified a man they shot and killed during a stolen car investigation. The victim, 27-year-old James Dean Schultz of Yakima Valley, died early Sunday.
Five Richland, Wash. officers responded to a report of a suspicious gold sedan, and it was believed to be connected to a stolen vehicle. Schultz was inside the car along with four other people.
Police arrested one person in the car for unlawful possession of a firearm and released the other three.
The five officers involved in the incident are on paid leave while the shooting is investigated.
In a statement, police said only that shots were fired and Schultz died at the scene.
