A 49-year-old San Jose police officer was arrested Thursday on felony charges of sexual exploitation of a female student at Scotts Valley High School.

The officer, Kenneth Earl Williams Sr., was arrested at his home in San Jose and booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail. A search of his home computers allegedly revealed inappropriate images of the student, according to a news release from the Scotts Valley Police Department.

Earl had been volunteering at the high school with the girls’ basketball team, the release said. Scotts Valley detectives began investigating his activities on Dec. 13 after they received a complaint of inappropriate behavior.

Sgt. Nick Muyo of the San Jose Police Department said Earl has been placed on administrative leave.

Earl is a 20-year veteran of the department.
