SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Officials return to a Massachusetts courtroom this week to discuss when to resume the trial against a man charged in the death of a child who accidentally shot himself with an Uzi at a gun show.

Former Pelham, Mass., police chief Edward Fleury’s trial was postponed indefinitely last week after he was hospitalized with an undisclosed illness.

Prosecutors and attorneys return to Hampden Superior Court on Wednesday for a status conference.

Pelham has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the 2008 death of Christopher Bizilj (bah-SEEL’) of Ashford, Conn. The 8-year-old lost control of an Uzi while shooting pumpkins at a gun fair and accidentally shot himself in the head.

Fleury’s company co-sponsored the event.
