MIAMI — A former sergeant is suing the city of Miami for overtime wages he says he was not paid for the time it took him to get dressed for work every day.

In a federal lawsuit, Michael Weissberg said he was “required to work approximately 30 minutes off-the-clock … for activities he performed at the City of South Miami Police Department prior to Roll Call,” the Miami Herald reported.

According to Mr. Weissberg, who resigned from the South Miami Police Department in 2013, these “activities” included getting dressed and undressed, maintaining his weapon, maintaining his patrol car, and cleaning his uniform.

The complaint states that the former sergeant worked 5-10 extra hours per week, resulting in more than $17,000 worth of unpaid overtime.
