Three found guilty in firebombing of Md. police tipper

BALTIMORE- Three men were found guilty Tuesday of firebombing the home of an activist who repeatedly called police to report drug dealing.

The men were members of a gang that threw a Molotov cocktail at Harwood Community Association President Edna McAbier’s rowhouse on Jan. 15, according to testimony in their federal trial and court documents.

Nakie Harris, 30, Terrence Smith, 24, and Richard Royal, 21, all of Baltimore, were convicted of conspiracy to commit witness tampering and related counts. Sentencing was set for Feb. 3.

Last month, three other men charged with the firebombing pleaded guilty.

The attack drew wide attention in a city struggling to curb crime and where witnesses are often intimidated and scared to come forward.

In 2002, a Baltimore couple and their five children were killed in a deliberately set fire after they complained to police about drug dealing in their neighborhood.
