BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. — A Minnesota police officer died while he was on an out-of-state vacation with his family.
KSTP reports that 39-year-old Brooklyn Park Officer Andy Suerth suffered a medical incident. He was with the force for 14 years. He leaves behind a wife, who is also a Brooklyn Park officer, and two children.
“His nickname was Big Andy because he is a big guy,” Police Chief Craig Enevoldsen said. “When you talk about the Teddy Bear effect, that was Andy because he was very kind and compassionate.”
Enevoldsen said a direct liaison has been assigned to the fallen officer’s family.
Suerth’s family created a GoFundMe page to raise funeral and ongoing expenses.
