BARTOW, Fla. — A Polk County Sheriff’s deputy died of injuries following a single-vehicle accident Friday morning.
Officer Joseph “Shane” Robbins, 40, was unresponsive when emergency workers arrived on the scene and spotted his cruiser off the road. The cause of the accident is still under investigation, according to the News Chief.
Robbins, a 15-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office, was a master deputy who had previously served as a special victims unit detective and homicide detective. He’d received 14 commendations and 187 recognitions in his career, according to the article.
“Shane served his community with dedication and pride,” PSCO spokesperson Carrie Eleazer told the Orlando Sentinel. “His care and concern for others was as much a part of his daily duties as enforcing the law.”
