TOPEKA, Kan. — An officer was shot and killed during a traffic stop Sunday.
WIBW reports the officer stopped a vehicle with multiple occupants when at least one person opened fire on the officer and then fled.
The Capital-Journal reported the officer as 40-year-old Cpl. Jason Harwood. Harwood joined the department in 1999. He was rushed to a hospital in critical condition and later died.
A manhunt involving several agencies then followed.
30-year-old Ross Preston Lane, a suspect in the shooting, gave police his location and was subsequently arrested.
Police believe there may have been three people in the car at the time of the shooting, according to the report.
An investigation is currently underway.
