MIAMI – A motorcycle officer died Tuesday in a multi-vehicle crash involving 12 people.

According to the Miami Herald, Officer Jorge Sanchez of the Miami Police Department was killed in the crash en route to work.

NBC Miami reported 53-year-old Sanchez was a 21-year law enforcement veteran. The officer was rear-ended by an SUV, according to the publication.

Four people were taken to the hospital, two in critical condition. Seven other people were treated at the scene.

An investigation into the crash in ongoing.
