SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — An officer in Puerto Rico was shot and killed after intervening in a robbery at a pharmacy Wednesday.
According to ODMP, Agent Edwin Roman-Acevedo was off-duty and in the pharmacy’s parking lot when he saw two armed subjects approach the building.
The suspects and Agent Roman-Acevedo became involved in a struggle over Roman-Acevedo’s service weapon as Roman-Acevedo identified himself as a police officer.
One of the subjects shot Roman-Acevedo, who returned fire and struck one of the suspects. That suspect was later arrested after seeking treatment for the gunshot wound at a hospital, according to the report. The other suspect fled.
Roman-Acevedo was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Agent Roman-Acevedo was a 10-year veteran officer. He is survived by his wife and child.
