SANDUSKY, Ohio — Authorities in northern Ohio say a police officer died after a gun battle with a suspect, who was seriously wounded.

The Erie County Sheriff’s Office says Sandusky police Officer Andrew Dunn died after the shooting early Saturday.

The sheriff’s office says 50-year-old Kevin Randleman was riding a bicycle when Dunn stopped him. Authorities did not immediately explain why Dunn stopped Randleman or what prompted the shootings.

Authorities say Dunn was shot multiple times and died at a nearby hospital. Randleman was flown to a Toledo medical center for treatment. Officials did not know if he had an attorney.

Officials say the 30-year-old Dunn had been with the Sandusky police for about three years and was married with two young children.

No charges have been filed. The sheriff’s office is investigating.
