MARION COUNTY, Tenn. — A Marion County deputy died in the line of duty on Sept. 17, the Officer Down Memorial Page reports.

Deputy Shannon Eric “Shane” Lang Sr., 48, suffered a heart attack after he assisted in removing heavy debris from a highway. After clearing the highway, he began to feel ill. The next morning, while en route to a call, he reported feeling worse and went to a hospital, where he suffered a fatal heart attack.

Lang had served with the Marion County Sheriff's Department for nine years and previously served with the Sequatchie County Sheriff's Office and the Florida State Department of Corrections, according to the report.

He is survived by his wife, five children and eight grandchildren.
