CANYON, Texas — A police officer has died from complications stemming from a feral cat bite.
Cpl. Monty D. Platt died Tuesday night, two weeks after he was bitten by a feral cat while responding to a call on the West Texas A&M University campus, KFDA reported.
Police said Platt complained he wasn’t feeling well Thursday and checked himself into an urgent care. He was later transported to an ICU. Platt had a severe reaction to medication prescribed to prevent infection from the bite.
His kidneys failed Tuesday night. He later passed away. He served with the university police department since 1996.
The department shared news of Platt’s death on Facebook.
“Campus Law Enforcement lost a great officer in Corporal Monty D. Platt,” the department wrote. “All of us at the University Police Department extend our prayers to the family during this difficult time.”
