TOLEDO, Ohio — A Toledo police officer was charged with drunken driving Saturday, two days after another Toledo police officer was charged with the same offense, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.
Michelle Sterling, 41, who was appointed to the force in 1992, was charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, failure to stay within marked lanes, and speeding for going 93 mph in a 65 mph-zone after she was stopped about 2:15 a.m. on southbound I-475 near Central Avenue, troopers at the patrol’s Toledo post said.
Maureen Wade, 36, was charged with drunken driving Thursday after she was stopped about 1 a.m. on southbound I-75 near Detroit Avenue for not staying within her lane while driving, troopers said.
Officer Sterling was off duty at the time of the stop, Toledo police Chief Michael Navarre said, adding that she was driving a personal vehicle and was not wearing a police uniform.
Officer Sterling was taken to the Toledo post where she refused a Breathalyzer test, troopers said.
The officer has been placed on limited-duty status pending an administrative investigation and the highway patrol’s investigation, Chief Navarre said.
Officer Wade, who was appointed to the force in 1993, was arraigned yesterday in Toledo Municipal Court on the charges stemming from Thursday’s incident. She was released on supervised recognizance bond, according to court records.
