WHITE, Ga. — Authorities say a Georgia police chief and an officer have been arrested, accused of arresting people on fake charges and then reducing the charges to collect fines.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesman Greg Ramsey says 58-year-old police chief David King and 26-year-old officer Black Scheff of the White Police Department were charged Wednesday with false imprisonment under color of legal process, theft by extortion and violation of oath by a public officer.

Ramsey says the incidents occurred between December 2011 and April 2015. The arrests come after the FBI and Georgia investigators executed search warrants in January at the White Police Department and White City Hall in the state’s northeast region.

King and Scheff are being held at a county jail. It’s unclear if they have attorneys.
