BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. — The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office has identified Yosvani Quesada as the deputy seriously injured Saturday while working in Vice President Mike Pence’s motorcade.
Florida Department of Law Enforcement records indicate that Quesada, who is in his early 30s, started with the sheriff’s office in October 2014 and was hired in July 2015.
Quesada was riding a 2017 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide south on Interstate 95 shortly before 2 p.m. As the road curved to the right approaching Southwest 23rd Avenue in Boynton Beach, the motorcycle wobbled and veered to the left, according to a sheriff’s office report.
Quesada was thrown from the motorcycle, which fell and slid “a significant distance” before stopping in the HOV lane, the sheriff’s office said.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue authorities took him to Delray Medical Center in serious condition. As of Tuesday he was recovering at home, the sheriff’s office said.
Pence tweeted Saturday afternoon, saying, “We are praying for the Sheriff’s Deputy and his family. We are grateful to everyone in the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office for all they do to keep us safe.”

Pence flew in to Palm Beach International Airport on Saturday afternoon and spoke at the Republican National Convention’s staff retreat in Palm Beach County, according to a schedule released by his staff. He then headed south to Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale where he spoke shortly before 3 p.m. with cruise-line company leaders about coronavirus issues.
