Fla. woman accused of dragging bike cop with her car

ORLANDO — A woman is accused of dragging an Orlando police bike-patrol officer with her car downtown during the weekend.

Brittany Rose Niquette, 23, is facing several charges, including leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, aggravated battery on a law-enforcement officer and several traffic citations, records show.

Orlando Officer Jose Varela, who was on a bicycle, tried to stop Niquette early Sunday near Church Street in downtown when she fled, dragging him a short distance, police said. He suffered minor injuries.

Several other officers, including some on bicycles, some on foot and others in patrol cars, chased Niquette through downtown streets.

Officers reported that Niquette made illegal U-turns, drove the wrong way on one-way streets and drove around roadblocks as they chased her.

One officer shouted at Niquette, “Stop your vehicle,” to which she responded “No!” and continued to drive, reports show.

The car finally stopped on Orange Avenue near the State Road 408 interchange after her passenger -- who was dressed in a red devil’s costume --put the car in park, according to reports.

Niquette was pulled from the car and arrested about 1:15 a.m. Sunday. Niquette was being held Monday without bail at the Orange County Jail.
