OAKLAND, Calif. — An armed man who opened fire on police from a second story window was shot by police after a standoff Friday morning.

According to CBS San Francisco, police received reports of a sniper in a neighborhood. When they arrived on the scene, Jesse Enjaian began shooting out of his home window with a high-powered rifle.

He exited the residence, spray painted eyes on a nearby garage then proceeded to spray paint a car. He made his way to the backyard and fired shots at a fence and a helicopter flying overhead.

Police said before they arrived, Enjaian was shooting at residents and parked cars. No injuries were reported.

California Highway Patrol told CBS that the gunman was “disarmed and detained.” Officials said he was injured before he was taken into custody. It’s unclear if he was wounded by police gunfire. He was transferred to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A nearby school was placed on lockdown as a precaution. An investigation is ongoing.
