GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A burglary and car theft suspect — “somebody we’ve been looking for for a while,” police said — was shot and killed while resisting arrest Monday.

Christopher Kenney, 24, had oustanding warrants and was being sought in connection with a string of burglaries and car thefts, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Gwinnett County police Cpl. Jake Smith said officers, acting on a tip the suspect was possibly asleep in his vehicle, approached and surrounded the man on a dirt drive.

Upon waking, Kenney started ramming police vehicles. Officers broke into his car and used a TASER more than once to try to subdue him, Smith said, adding that meanwhile other officers were “jumping up onto cars, trying to avoid being run over by the suspect.”

Multiple officers made the decision to shoot, Smith said, fatally wounding Kenney, who died at the scene.
