This week’s photo comes from Police1 Columnist Richard Fairburn. The photo shows a young officer and his wife taking his first steps on the road to recovery the day after he was shot in the lower abdomen. The officer was hit when a foot pursuit suspect doubled back, staging an impromptu ambush at 0230 hours in a dark neighborhood. The suspect was killed when this officer and back-up officers returned fire. The officer is expected to recover fully and his name is still being held by the department. This was the officer’s second shift back to work after being cleared in a previous SWAT shooting.
