PARK FOREST, Ill. — An officer shot in the head during a gunfight with a burglary suspect last month has made “incredible gains”, Chicago Tribune reported.
Officer Tim Jones, who has been with the department less than a year, was involved in a gun battle on March 19 with the 21-year-old suspect, Thurman Reynolds. Officers responded to a reports of a break-in when they encountered Reynolds. He emerged from the vacant home and opened fire on police.
Jones, shot three times, has made significant gains during treatment and was being transferred to a rehabilitation clinic.
“It’s a good step forward,” Deputy Chief Christopher Mannino said to the publication. “He’s made some incredible gains in a short period of time and that has us hopeful for him.”
Jones no longer requires life support and has stabilized enough to be transferred to the new facility.
A GoFundMe page set up in honor of the officer garnered over $65,000 and a fundraising event at a local restaurant raised over $5,000.
Mannino told the news site the progress Jones has made in the last few weeks is remarkable.
