SUN VALLEY, Calif. — Bystander video shows a man charging at police with a hammer, NBC 4 reported.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the shooting occurred around 2 p.m. on Nov. 30. Officers were responding to a call for an assault with a deadly weapon.
Video of the incident shows the man walking quickly toward officers with a large hammer in his hand. He appears to be shouting at officers as they order him to drop the hammer.
The video shows officers deploying less lethal weapons, but the man continues marching toward the officers with the hammer raised until at least one officer fires his weapon, hitting the man.
The man was transported to the hospital in critical condition, according to the report.
