VELDA CITY, Mo. — The Velda City Police Department released video showing a 2014 pursuit and officer-involved shooting that left one cop injured, KMOV reported.
The department released the video on their Facebook page.
“There is no greater demonstration of one’s effectiveness under stress than when faced with a sudden and direct threat of loss of life,” the department wrote.
The 2014 incident occurred on Sept. 7 when Officers Adam Baumhardt and Michael McCarthy were responding to a disturbance call. A female victim was reported as being chased by a male suspect and her home was being burglarized, according to the Facebook post.
Witnesses told the department the suspect had assaulted the woman by grabbing her hair. When officers arrived, the woman told them she feared for her life.
The suspect was inside a vehicle when officers approached and issued verbal commands instructing the suspect to leave the vehicle. The suspect exited and fired his gun at officers several times.
Baumhardt was injured in his abdomen and arm. McCarthy returned fire but the suspect fled the scene.
The suspect was later apprehended and is serving a 14-year prison sentence.
The dashcam footage provided crucial evidence at trial, the department posted.
